BEST PRACTICES:
Success stories on participation in
decision-making
There are in general few examples of
legislation on farmers' participation, although some countries in the South
have extensive legislation in this regard. All the same, actual participation
in decision-making processes seems to be marginal, according to survey
respondents, and is often confined to large-scale farmers who are normally not
engaged in the maintenance of plant genetic diversity.
In the North,
the participation of farmers in decision-making processes is more common, but
without reference to specific laws or policies. However, farmers in the North
claim that their influence is now decreasing, due to their countries'
commitments to international agreements.
