Pre-Seminar Dialogue:

DAY 0: MONDAY, 24 OCTOBER 2022 KNOWLEDGE SHARING AND RIGHTS-BUILDING FARMER DIALOGUE

The Seed and Knowledge Initiative (SKI) will be hosting a farmer-based dialogue on Monday 24 October – a day that also significantly marks Zambia’s Day of Independence. Farmers will be gathering from across Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and South Africa, to share knowledge and experiences on Farmers’ Rights in practice, the revival of farmer-led seed systems, and of restrictive policies which undermine their rights and food soverighty.

The dialogue forms part of the SKI Farmers’ Rights campaign that is a culmination of 8 years of SKI’s work, and many generations of farmers’ knowledge, through seed and food celebrations that are happening across the region, farmers’ dialogues and seed market days. The campaign gives voice to the urgent call by farmers to support their seed practices, to urgently address the threats to Farmers’ Rights and in turn wider food and agriculture systems, and work with governments to secure Farmers’ Rights in southern Africa and beyond.

The dialogue will also provide a platform for views to be shared by farmers, which will feed into the seminar taking place over the following days. Seminar participants are invited to attend the dialogue as guests. Note that the dialogue is taking place at a different venue from the seminar.
