This paper analyzes the functions of CSBs and shows that CSBs can effectively integrate formal and informal seed systems to improve food security. Furthermore, the paper shows that CSBs can be a platform to trigger innovation adoption through a bottom-up approach and thus stimulate community development. It further shows that investment in the economic sustainability of CSBs often goes unnoticed.
